Resurrection Rolls
Resurrection rolls are sweet cinnamon-sugar treats made with crescent roll dough wrapped around marshmallows that disappear during baking, leaving behind an empty "tomb." They’re a meaningful Easter tradition that tells the story of Christ’s resurrection through food.
Kids love the surprise of biting into what looks like a filled roll only to find it empty inside. The melted marshmallow creates a slightly sweet, tender interior.
Why the Marshmallows Disappear Completely
The marshmallows don’t actually vanish—they melt and get absorbed into the dough during baking. The butter and cinnamon sugar create a barrier that helps the marshmallow melt evenly without leaking out.
Use regular-sized marshmallows, not mini ones. Mini marshmallows melt too quickly and can make the dough soggy. Regular marshmallows give you the right amount of sweetness and create the hollow center that makes these rolls special.

Equipment Needed
- 12-cup muffin tin
- Small mixing bowl
- Pastry brush
Instructions
- Prepare oven: Preheat oven to 375°F. Lightly grease 8 cups of a muffin tin with cooking spray or butter.
- Make cinnamon sugar: Mix granulated sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl until well combined. Set aside.
- Separate dough: Unroll crescent roll dough and separate into 8 triangular pieces along the perforated lines.
- Coat marshmallows: Dip each marshmallow in melted butter, coating all sides. Roll the buttered marshmallow in the cinnamon sugar mixture until completely covered.
- Wrap and seal: Place one coated marshmallow at the wide end of each dough triangle. Wrap the dough around the marshmallow, pinching all seams tightly to seal completely. Place seam-side down in prepared muffin cups.
- Add topping: Brush tops of wrapped rolls with remaining melted butter and sprinkle with remaining cinnamon sugar.
- Bake rolls: Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until golden brown on top and dough sounds hollow when tapped. The rolls should be firm to the touch and spring back slightly when pressed. Cool in pan for 5 minutes before serving warm.
