Make-Ahead Easter Egg Cheese Ball for Potluck
This cheese ball combines cream cheese, sharp cheddar, and herbs into an egg shape that’s both festive and delicious. You’ll shape it days ahead, then roll in chopped nuts or herbs right before serving.
It’s the kind of appetizer that looks impressive but takes minimal effort. Plus, it actually tastes better after sitting in the fridge for a day or two.
Why This Cheese Ball Gets Better with Time
The flavors in this cheese ball need time to meld together. When you first mix everything, the herbs and seasonings taste separate and a bit sharp. After 24 hours in the fridge, they blend into something much more cohesive.
I’ve served this immediately after making it, and while it’s fine, it’s noticeably better after that first day. The cream cheese softens slightly, and all those distinct flavors become one smooth, well-rounded taste.

Equipment Needed
- Large mixing bowl
- Electric hand mixer
- Plastic wrap
- Large serving plate
Instructions
- Mix base ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with an electric mixer until smooth and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Add mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Beat until well combined.
- Add cheese and herbs: Add the shredded cheddar cheese and chopped chives to the cream cheese mixture. Mix with a wooden spoon or spatula until evenly distributed. The mixture should hold together when pressed but still feel soft.
- Shape and chill: Transfer the mixture to a large piece of plastic wrap. Use the plastic wrap to help shape the mixture into an oval egg shape, about 5 inches long and 3 inches wide. Wrap tightly and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or up to 3 days.
- Coat and serve: Combine chopped nuts and parsley on a large plate. Remove the cheese ball from plastic wrap and roll it in the nut mixture, pressing gently so the coating adheres. The surface should be completely covered with nuts and herbs.
